With books flying off the shelves to loud footsteps being heard and the laughter of children we also experienced on previous visits great interaction with equipment. Intelligent responses and more! With over 65,000 objects stored here could spirits not want to leave there once loved possessions. Or are they stuck with the reminders of war and cannot leave! With so much history. What will you discover?? 👻👻👻

Rifles Museum known as The Wardrobe is a beautiful grade 2 listed building. The current building dates back to the 15th century and was used to store the robes of the bishop of sailsbury which is where it's name The Wardrobe/Rifles comes from, however this wasn't the first building on this site. The orginal building was constructed in 1254 to become the residence of one of the canons who served Sailsbury cathedral. Later being let out to non clerical tenants. Big changes were made in the 18th century by the Coles family. They divided the upper and lower halls, Including forming a dining room, staircase hall, dining room and entrance hall the layout you see today.

Several people resided here including a doctor who's grand daughter was born and passed here in 1941. The building was later used during the 2nd world war as a hostel of the auxillary territory service before it became a training college for school mistresses with accommodation until 1969 when the building was left to fall into disrepair. After negotiations, a 99 year lease and financial donations. The Wardrobe opened in 1981 as the museum. Housing over 65,000 items such as documents, artefacts and other items connected with the former regiments.
