History
 HMP Shepton Mallet, sometimes known as Cornhill, is a former prison located in Shepton Mallet, England. It closed in 2013 and was the UK’s oldest operating prison. Before closure, Shepton Mallet was a category C lifer that held 189 prisoners.
 
The prison was opened before 1625 and was expanded in 1790. Between the 1820s and 1830s, a treadwill was installed for those sentenced to hard labour. In 1843, the number of cells was increased by adding a second storey to each wing. The prison was damaged during a fire in 1904. In 1930, the number of inmates had fallen, and the prison was closed.
 
In 1939, the prison was reopened as a military prison after the second world war broke out. It was initially used by the British army but later by American forces who constructed a new execution block to hang condemned prisoners. It was also used for the storage of important historical documents, including The Doomsday Book. It was returned to civilian use in 1966.
 
The Kray twins, Ronnie & Reggie, famous London Gangsters were held in Shepton Mallet in the early 1950s after they deserted the British Army.

There are reports of a white lady roaming the wings, and quite often, the sweet smell of perfume can be smelt. Whistles and footsteps have been heard. Cell doors slamming shut on their own. Shadow figures seen. Interaction with equipment.

Deposits are non refundable or transferable. If the deposit is selected, the final balance is due 2 weeks before the event. You will receive an invoice the week the final balance is due. Please check junk/spam. If the final balance is not received, you will lose your deposit and place. If you wish to pay sooner please contact us. Final balance £20pp.
